Breakfast Roundtable with Generation Investment Management

SFi March 2025 Newsletter

In early April, we were honoured to welcome Mark Mills and Colin le Duc of Generation Investment Management to Hong Kong. In a thought-provoking breakfast roundtable, they shared with the SFi community their experience in sustainable finance, and insightful observations on trends and future developments in the sector.

We heard that sustainable investing requires aligning ambitious impact goals with strong financial returns to effectively address worsening environmental challenges. This includes using innovative approaches such as impact-adjusted carry, to aligning incentives with CO₂ reduction targets. Whilst market downturns can be challenging, they often reveal exceptional investment opportunities, and climate-led assets also provide critical diversification benefits, balancing risks from carbon-intensive investments and unlocking potential through natural climate solutions. Finally, deep expertise and long-term strategies are essential to overcoming sustainable fund underperformance and geopolitical challenges, reinforcing the financial case for sustainable investing.

Launch of SFi Impact Access event series

SFi March 2025 Newsletter

This month we also successfully launched our inaugural SFi Impact Access event series. This exclusive gathering is designed to spotlight a diverse range of impact funds from around the world, whilst bringing together leading private investors, responsible funds and ventures to explore regional and global impact investing trends and emerging opportunities in this space.

For our inaugural Impact Access gathering, we were pleased to welcome leaders from Nuveen, Double Delta, InnoVen Capital SEA and Impax Asset Management, who shared their unique perspectives on key topics such as affordable housing, the green transition and navigating market uncertainties. SFi community members enjoyed lively discussions with each manager, fostering knowledge exchange and showcasing the impetus of impact capital across Asia Pacific.

Given the overwhelmingly positive feedback and increasing appetite for these types of initiatives, we’re excited to announce that the SFi Impact Access event series will become a regular fixture going forward, and will be open to SFi members only. So do get in touch with us about our membership options if you’re interested in participating in future SFi Impact Access events.
