Hello Impact Ecosystem,
We hope you’ve had a great long weekend. Welcome to April—here’s what’s going on.
A California man is the first person in the U.S. charged with smuggling greenhouse gases. He allegedly sold the gas on Facebook Marketplace. It's not funny!
Meanwhile back in Asia, a recent survey by EY makes it official that Chinese mainland families are the primary driving force behind the development of family offices in Hong Kong.
And Founder Factory shines a light on the not entirely unsurprising, but definitely depressing, alarming underrepresentation of women in climate tech. Women-led companies accounted for just 7% of climate VC deals in 2023 despite a US$32bn surge in funding towards startups.
ASIA IMPACT DEALS
In a major shift in the cultivated seafood space, Green Queen reports that Singaporean startups, and key industry players, Umami Bioworks and Shiok Meats have announced a merger.
In more seafood news, Fishlog, the seafood supply chain platform in Indonesia, has closed their pre-Series A Extension round at an undisclosed amount with participation from Mandiri Capital Indonesia, BNI Ventures, Accel Partners, Insignia Ventures Partners and Saison Capital.
And in global new energy transition news, Mitsui is pouring US$560 million into a Vietnam gas project.
LEARNING ABOUT PLANETARY BOUNDARIES
in collaboration with World Economic Forum
We were fortunate enough to host a private session with leading global scientist Johan Röcktstrom and Luis Alvarado, Global Head of the GAEA initiative for World Economic Forum, who shared how the Planetary Boundaries (PB) health check and Earth Observation (EO) utilises AI technology enabling us to send mother earth to the doctor every day.
Having the ability to check the entire planet at any given time, will help us to cure current day (man-made) illnesses before they reach a raging fever of 1.5C, which would translate into a climate catastrophe.
