SFi March 2025 Newsletter

Hello Impact Community,

March has been a month of momentum, connection, and reflection across our region. Last week in Singapore, our CEO Katy Yung joined the Center for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth's  EPIC Private Wealth Gathering – three days of powerful conversations with families, funders, and ecosystem builders on what it truly means to steward capital for generations in Asia. Themes of trust-based giving, patient capital, and purposeful partnerships resonated across the discussions, alongside inspiring reminders from leaders like Jacqueline Novogratz and Ravi Menon, Singapore’s Ambassador for Climate Action, on how capital, imagination, and courage can create lasting systems change.

Back in Hong Kong, our team shared perspectives in the Financial Services Development Council’s new report, "The Role of Finance in Addressing Sustainable Development", and published a new thought leadership piece on why Asian families are key to shaping a regenerative blue economy.

As we count down to SFi Impact Week and the SFi Impact Summit 2026, we’re more inspired than ever by the energy across our community – and the collective ambition to move Capital in Action | Impact in Motion.

Hong Kong’s Role in Mobilising Purpose-Driven Capital: Key Takeaways from the FSDC Report

SFi March 2025 Newsletter

Earlier this month, SFi was delighted to join Z/Yen’s webinar exploring the findings of the newly released report, a Financial Services Development Council (FSDC)-commissioned study.

The discussion brought together insights from Tracy Wong Harris(HKGFA / AIIB), Simon Mills, and moderator Mike Wardle from Z/Yen, focusing on how finance can become a true engine for long-term sustainable change.

As our CEO Katy Yung shared during the session, “Hong Kong is uniquely positioned to channel global capital into climate and social solutions – pairing deep, liquid markets and policy momentum with a fast-growing community of purpose-driven family offices. Within the impact investing space, the next step is leveraging our strengths to enable public-private partnership pilots that unlock catalytic capital, foster peer-to-peer collaboration, and drive more explicit impact allocations amongst large asset owners and foundations, so more capital can move with confidence and transparency.”

We’re grateful to FSDC for inviting SFi to contribute our perspective on Hong Kong’s role as a regional hub for purpose-driven capital in this important report.

Unlocking the Blue Economy: The Next Frontier for Asian Family Offices

SFi March 2025 Newsletter

With the UN Global Ocean Treaty (High Seas/BBNJ Agreement) moving from aspiration to reality earlier this year, a new era for ocean governance is underway – policy is stepping up, and now, capital must follow.

Across Asia Pacific, family offices are rethinking legacy and moving beyond capital preservation, exploring the blue economy as a path for purpose-driven investment – from coastal resilience and blue food to biodiversity and nature-based solutions. In this piece, SFi examines why Asian families are uniquely positioned to shape a regenerative blue economy and how they can take meaningful steps forward in practice.

Stewarding Capital with Moral Imagination: Katy Yung’s Singapore Takeaways

SFi March 2025 Newsletter

Our CEO, Katy Yung, recently joined families, funders and ecosystem builders in Singapore for the Center for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth's EPIC26 gathering. Her reflections centred on what it means to steward capital in Asia with moral leadership, and how investors can stay grounded in their values whilst deploying capital at scale.

Throughout the week, there was a shared acknowledgement that many of today’s financial systems and structures still fail to reflect realities on the ground. Conversations highlighted the urgent need for more patient, catalytic and purposeful capital to unlock meaningful and lasting transformation in the region.

Key themes that emerged included:

  • The power of public‑private partnerships and blended finance, particularly in advancing food security, sustainable agriculture and climate resilience

  • The importance of investing in capacity building for social enterprises

  • A growing shift towards “holistic giving” – bringing Time, Talent, Ties and Treasure, in addition to financial capital, to the table.

Speakers and participants alike emphasised the importance of humility and collaboration, as no single funder can drive systemic change alone. Trust‑based and participatory approaches were cited as critical to redistributing power and strengthening agency among communities and frontline organisations.

Katy returned to Hong Kong inspired by the region’s interconnected impact stories and energy for change. As we look ahead to the SFi Impact Summit 2026 in June, the insights and momentum ERIC26 will continue to inform SFi's work in the months to come.

Capital in Action, Impact in Motion: Why SFi Impact Summit 2026 Matters

SFi March 2025 Newsletter

Join us for the SFi Impact Summit 2026 on 3 June in Hong Kong as we bring together 300+ leading family offices, asset owners, private investors, and ecosystem partners from across Asia Pacific and beyond under the theme Capital in Action | Impact in Motion.

This year, we're moving past the headlines. The programme is built around the questions the community are actually wrestling with – not the polished answers, but the honest ones:

  • Is impact investing delivering on its promise? Gain candid insights from our participants on what they really think.

  • Where is capital actually moving? Spotlighting real deployment across climate resilience, the blue economy and faith-driven investing – with the structures that make it work.

  • Who's leading – and who's staying close? Sessions on locally owned and locally governed vehicles, and how global families can scale across borders without losing accountability.

  • What does it take to back builders? A shift from momentum-chasing to long-term conviction – supporting the funds, operators and platforms working closest to communities in emerging and frontier markets.

You'll hear from Impact CIOs on how they are positioning their capital. You'll explore collaboration across North Asian impact ecosystems. You'll dig into blended finance, NextGen capital, and collective action structures that are already moving.

Don’t miss out – join us at the SFi Impact Summit 2026 and be part of shaping the future of impact investing.
